IT by Moose ...that's Instructional Techniques
Published in Paperback by Moose McMillen (01 December, 1994)
Author: Moose McMillen
Average review score:

Practical Skills that Work!
IT by Moose is the best collection of PRACTICAL teaching and training skills you'll find in one place. Whether you need to stand in front of a group of 1 or 1,000 you'll find tips, tricks and techniques that will make your presentations shine. I had the opportunity of attending Moose's live train-the-trainer course and learned more about teaching in the first day than I did on other courses in weeks. If you need to make any kind of presentation quickly and want 'just the facts' - this is the one book to get. It is also a very easy and pleasant read, having large text, and many great illustrations. (...) Good show Moose!

Living With My Stepfather Is Like Living With a Moose
Published in Hardcover by Farrar Straus & Giroux (Juv) (March, 1997)
Authors: Lynea Bowdish and Blanche Sims
Average review score:

A funny, slim stepfather book with plenty of kid appeal!
Poor Matt! His step-father is a klutz and a dork. Matt is SURE of it. He'd rather not have anything to do with the man, but his mother gently insists, and Matt discovers why in his own time. Kids will appreciate the humor, sensitivity, and genuine understanding Bowdish brings to this all-too-common dilemma of learning to appreciate a new parent. Dialogue rings true and the first person point of view is great.

I saw Willy Claflin with Maynard Moose at The National Storytelling Festival and fell in love. Storytelling at it's most fun. I have all his CD's and every one is an absolute gem. The stories will delight kids of all ages. I've listened to his stories with kids from 2-50 years old and everybody leaves with something to remember.

Big fun for any age
Sleeping Beastly is my favorite Maynard story but whole CD is wonderful. The twists Mr. Claflin puts on his stories are always interesting and humorous. Enough to keep the attention of the squirmiest little one and any adult within earshot. It's a winner!

Moose in the Water/Bamboo on the Bench : A Journal and a Journey
Published in Hardcover by Alder Creek Enterprises Inc (01 November, 2000)
Authors: Kathy Scott and Michael Miling
Average review score:

Pleasant reading
I found the reading of Moose in the Water Bamboo on the Bench so enjoyable I couldn't put it down until I had read the whole book. This was one of the most enjoyable books I had read in a long time concerning flyfishing and the outdoors. Kathy Scott has done a fantastic job taking you on a journey from start to finish through the adventures she and her husband experience in the Maine woods and his building of a bamboo fly rod. I have read this book 3 times I find that enjoyable. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the outdoors and and loves to just read a good book. I greatly anticipate Kathy's next book.

Moose Meat and Wild Rice
Published in Paperback by McClelland & Stewart (June, 1987)
Author: Basil H. Johnston
Average review score:

A treasure-trove of hilarity...
Basil Johnston is a Canadian National Treasure, he really is. The man is a master story-teller, even in printed form.

"Moose Meat and Wild Rice" is a collection of true stories taken from the recollections of the Moose Meat Point Indian Reserve. The stories are fresh, good-natured and full of wonderful insight into the life and living of the Natives' collective soul.

The adventure in humour abounds in this tome - from errant and misguided honey-gathering friends, to a young brave out to prove his bravery by taking on the dark forces of an abandoned house, to some memories of Johnston's very own.

One of my favourite stories, apart from the honey-gathering fiasco, was that of the war-vet friends, Meegis and Konauss, looking to wet their palates. But then there's also the wedding tale, and the bologna=meat/sawdust=wood account. Oh wait, there's the on-ice privys, and the head-light bashing Yellow Cloud.

Well, suffice to say, there are a number of wonderful recountings that will have you laughing out loud. As Mr. Johnston himself said of the stories, "If the accounts sometimes appear to be far-fetched and even implausible, it is simply because human beings very often act and conduct their affairs and those of others in absurd manner." Amen to that, Mr. Johnston. And it's a good thing, too, because if we humans didn't act so absurdly we'd be robbed of your incredible story-telling gift.

A big bravo to this title. Grab a copy, settle in, and enjoy the story-teller at his finest.
